After wowing audiences as Hedwig in a memorable production of John Cameron Mitchell’s rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the 2011 Montreal Fringe Festival, Montreal-based Alberta native ANTONIO BAVARO (Gracie) (a.k.a. the wonderfully notorious drag queen Connie Lingua) wowed audiences as Dr. Frank’n’Furter in the 2012 Montreal production of The Rocky Horror Show (complete with live band) at the indie Mainline Theatre.
Bavaro performs in and between boundaries: As a professional actor/writer/cabaret host/drag artiste and as a diplomaed Grant MacEwan University Theatre Arts graduate. He will soon receive a BFA from Concordia University’s Theatre & Development program.
His practice has shaped to new heights since throwing themselves into the hot poutine of Montréal four years ago. This trilingual community artist explores our psycho-social ‘global-village’ and their own identity, sharing humanity’s stories with extensive experience in the worlds of history, arts administration, tourism, education, language, sexuality, gender, fashion & cosmetics. Recent Montreal credits include: producer & host of the monthly drag cabaret COCHONNE at Café Cléopatra, re_Generation & Tightrope with 2boys.Tv, Aphrodite in PoiMoi productions’ Hippolytus in 2012 St-Ambroise Montréal Fringe, Jesus in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot with Concordia Theatre, and co-produced/starred in vi.Va?VOOM!’s production of Hedwig & the Angry Inch at the Montreal & Edmonton 2011 Fringe Festivals.
